That Could Have Gone Smoother

In my opinion, one of the greatest little bits of dialogue ever delivered in a game is in a cut scene from Red Dead Redemption 2.

The primary protagonist, Arthur Morgan, and his gang have just pulled off another messy robbery.

One of the gang chirps: “Well that could have gone smoother.”

Morgan responds, laconically: “I’m gonna put that on my tombstone.”

Wild west honourable rogues aside, ‘Life’ could always go smoother. But if you wait for that perfect, smooth situation you will never get to live, Life will instead live you.

Just about everything could be smoother: childhood, intimate relationships, business deals, family holidays, new marketing campaigns, and the list goes on.

But if you wait for the smooth ride and don’t embrace the bumps, potholes, hairpin bends and detours of life then you’re missing out on everything, all the fun, all the learning, and all the growth.
