Online Education…Not

Warning, as Seth Godin would say, ‘this is a rant.’

Due to COVID we saw a massive rise in online lectures and education, out of necessity.

In some cases, really great, in others, not so much.

I do believe the rapid delivery of much needed skills and new ways of learning through the online environment are absolutely crucial to creating a better world.

What I don’t believe in is taking a Distance Learning University Education System, the attitudes of which are Jurassic and outmoded, converting that into a couple of quizzes with a textbook, sending out a few announcements over a semester and assuming you have done your job as a lecturer and teacher.

Automation is a tool to allow you to be a better teacher, not to leverage your lack of passion and laziness. If you don’t want to teach, go do something else so someone who is passionate about it can step in and do a great job with the new tools available.
